Learning guide

Run a seven-day learning sprint

Turn a broad subject into one small capability you can practise, test and retain.

Estimated time: 30 minutes setup, then 25 minutes dailyUpdated: 27 September 2026

Step by step

  1. Define an observable outcome

Replace “learn spreadsheets” with “clean a table, calculate totals and make one chart without notes”.

  2. Break it into seven sessions

Plan one concept, one worked example and one retrieval task each day. Keep the scope small enough to finish.

  3. Practise before rereading

Close the source and solve a small task from memory. Check the result, then record the exact gap.

  4. Finish with a real artifact

On day seven, make or explain something without following a tutorial. Save the artifact and a list of remaining questions.

Ready-to-use checklist

  • Outcome can be demonstrated
  • Seven short sessions scheduled
  • Daily retrieval task included
  • Mistake log created
  • Final artifact defined

Common problems

You keep consuming tutorials

Pause the video or book and reproduce the last idea from memory in a new example.

The plan slips after a day

Reduce the daily task to ten minutes but keep the same cue and sequence.
