Verify identity at the vehicle
Inspect the original V5C, watermark and details. Match registration, vehicle identification number and engine information where accessible. The V5C is not proof of ownership.
Inspect and test systematically
View in daylight, start from cold if agreed, check tyres, warnings, controls, leaks, body gaps and service evidence. Arrange an independent inspection when risk or value justifies it.
Control the payment and paper trail
Confirm seller identity and address, write the agreed condition and included items, use a traceable payment method and obtain a dated receipt.
